3 seconds of fame...or shame? or laugh :)
February 25, 2017

One of my dreams since I was a child was to become a famous actress. And one day this dream came true. Well, not the way I was expecting it, but anyway I realised, dreams actually do come true :)

In the middle of my working day I was invited to be a star featured as a talent for 1 small part of TradeMe commercial together with celebrity NZ Comedian. I was a client of "Make Up artist" :) What I can say about the experience, well, it is tough to be an actress! You need to make quite few retakes for a tiny piece of final edit. But it was such fun, we LOLed so much that day, thanks guys for what you've done to my face, hahaha! :)

Welcome to Gattaca*
February 03, 2016

According to cbsnews.com, "Britain's fertility regulator has approved a scientist's request to edit the human genetic code in an effort to better understand how embryos develop - but critics fear the new technique crosses too many ethical boundaries.

Gene editing involves using tools to precisely edit genes inside living cells. Scientists typically find specific sections of DNA to slice and repair or replace, much like a biological version of cut-and-paste software.

Yet critics warn that tweaking the genetic code this way could eventually produce a slippery slope that eventually leads to so-called "designer babies," where parents not only aim to avoid inherited diseases, but seek taller, stronger or smarter children with specific physical characteristics."

It is always so interesting to observe how sci-fi ideas come to real life.

*Gattaca is a 1997 American science fiction film written and directed by New Zealander Andrew Niccol. The film presents a biopunk vision of a future society driven by eugenics where potential children are conceived through genetic manipulation to ensure they possess the best hereditary traits of their parents.

100 years of global warming in less than a minute

Nasa has released a powerful illustration of Earth's long-term warming trend between 1880 and 2015. Looks horrifying...

Pasternak

Boris Pasternak,
"To Be the Famous..."
October 14, 2015

It is not seemly to be famous:
Celebrity does not exalt;
There is no need to hoard your writings
And to preserve them in a vault.

To give your all-this is creation,
And not-to deafen and eclipse.
How shameful, when you have no meaning,
To be on everybody's lips!

Try not to live as a pretender,
But so to manage your affairs
That you are loved by wide expanses,
And hear the call of future years.

Leave blanks in life, not in your papers,
And do not ever hesitate
To pencil out whole chunks, whole chapters
Of your existence, of your fate.

Into obscurity retiring
Try your development to hide,
As autumn mist on early mornings
Conceals the dreaming countryside.

Another, step by step, will follow
The living imprint of your feet;
But you yourself must not distinguish
Your victory from your defeat.

And never for a single moment
Betray your credo or pretend,
But be alive - this only matters -
Alive and burning to the end.

Just love it!
Rudyard Kipling, If
October 10, 2015

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
